So sad that we lost the wonderful shady ash tree by the garden. Last fall Dave and Chris planted a new red maple...someday we'll have shade again. The garden is finally starting to warm up again...
We've moved all the plants into the greenhouse: the new tomatoes we replanted after the freezeout on March 25 and the basil which we've kept inside until now. Keeping the covers on for extra protection until the weather warms more. Carrying all the boxes in on cold nights. Added lights for a few degrees of extra warmth.

Asparagus bed cleared of weeds
This is the bottom side of a piece of "sod" from the far southeast corner of the overgrown top strawberry bed...a tangle of huge grass roots. I regret to say that I seem to have ignored this bed last year. Bill weeded much of the rest last fall and again this spring,but this corner seems impossible. We're going to let it go until summer, harvest whatever it produces, and then dig it up. A whole bucket of weeds came out of the pathway!
Lost most of the seedlings last night (March 25). I thought the greenhouse would keep them warm enough. Weather had been predicted to go down to 33 degrees F. Perhaps it went lower. Almost all tomatoes looked like this. We replanted on Monday, March 28. We had not put the basil out yet, thank goodness, so it is all fine!
